History of Leeds Chinese Community Association

  • 1991-1992: In consultation with Leeds City Council (LCC), with supporting evidence from Dr. Ian Law, the Leeds Wah-Kwong Chinese Association, Leeds Chinese Community School, Leeds Chinese Women’s Group and the Leeds Chinese Advice Bureau collectively decided that there was a need to establish an umbrella organisation for all the Chinese communities in Leeds.
  • 1993: The Leeds Chinese Community Association (LCCA) was founded as a charitable voluntary organisation, (Charity No,1095420)
  • 1994: LCCA acquired the LCCA Centre from Leeds City Council
  • 2002: LCCA was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee (Reg No. 4429268).
  • 2003: LCC transferred the ownership of the property to LCCA
  • 2006: LCCA Constitution was amended as not to admit individual members and established an Individual Members Group (IMG). Any volunteers who wished to join LCCA, upon recommendation of 2 Trustees or 2 Representatives from Member Organisations, had to join IMG and became LCCA member.


LCCA Management Board is made up of Representatives from Member Organisations.


LCCA Trustees are elected from these Representatives. There are to be a minimum of 3 Trustees on LCCA Management Board.

LCCA wholly owns and operates the Chinese Community Centre as a venue to provide facilities for social, cultural, recreational and educational activities for the Chinese communities.

  • Social activities – luncheon club, social club for community members

Yes, the LCCA has a dedicated Elderly Luncheon Club as one of its member organisations, specifically focused on serving the needs of older people in the Chinese community .

The LCCA includes the Leeds Chinese Community School and New Vision Education Chinese School as member organisations, which provide both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese language education

The LCCA receives funding from various sources, including the National Lottery, charitable trusts, sponsors, donors, and Leeds City Council. For example, they recently received £10,180 from National Lottery players to fund core expenses of their community centre for 2025-2026, as well as £4,000 from the Foyle Foundation.
